Wings

At school I would doodle in the margins of my books, my favorite thing to doodle was love hearts with wings, it is no surprise that as I have grown so has my affiliation with all things winged!.

L’ECOLE DES FLEURS Flower Appreciation Course {Me}

I begun an Introductory Flower Appreciation course this week with a girlfriend. There was a minuscule fear we would fail miserably, we walked away presently surprised, we had survived the first week with flying colours in shades of pink, purple white and green. We discussed colour theory and tried our hand at making a beautiful garden posy full of David Austin Roses, tuberose, hyacinth, Carnations, Lavender, and rosemary (Lest we forget). Harriet runs the course, she is a natural teacher and the course is run in a super fun and relaxed learning environment. I feel like I have learnt a bucket load already and have so much more confidence when looking at bunches of un arranged flowers in the supermarket. The best part about the course is you get to keep the arrangements we create, my lounge room looks and smells divine. I am super keen for next week’s course and will keep you updated on our progress as we go.

If you are interested in doing a course with Harriet take a look on her blog or feel free to send her an email and see when the next class starts.

Stair Gallery {Home Inspiration}

If you are a regular follower of Black Velvet Chair you have probably realised that our abode is spread over three levels, Real Estate people would probably call it a “Townhouse style apartment”.  The stairwell was left blank for many years, until it received a spruce up January 2011 & the short residency of Basil The Gazelle (until he decided he preferred the Guest Bedroom).

Over the past year I have been collecting White and Mirrored frames and pairing them with Black and White photographs. Whilst this area is still a work in progress I am loving how this part of the house is progressing. For the first frame instalment I laid out the frames on a bed before putting them up, but since then I have been adding to it one by one (Just making sure they are level).

The Floating glass frame (above right) was a thrifted find, it was dark timber when I purchased it, I laboriously applied many layers of white paint.

Birthday Party Picnic {Entertaining}

Hubs had a birthday over the weekend, I threw him a Birthday Party Picnic to celebrate with our close friends. Inspired by My Life, My Loves and Sharnel Dollar Designs my sister and I created a picnic table with all of his favourite dips and treats. Everyone loved the sweets, chocolate crackles, cupcakes, rockey road, the hit of the day Sherbie cones and lolly boxes.

The picnic was held at a waterfront park near our house, a few pictures before everyone arrived:

Doug Up on Bourke {Shopping}

I went to Doug up on Bourke on Friday, after a successful visit with my girlfriend to Ikea.
There were so many unusual antiques, things you had never even imagined, a life size camel anyone.

Vintage surveyor tripod lamps.

 Best "Scared Animal Impression".

Real Zebra {The first time I have seen one up close}.

I picked one of the above biscuit jars up for my mother from a thrift store for $5.

I hope you enjoyed a quick walk though the shop it was interesting and worth a stop if you are in the Waterloo area.
