Beautiful blue milk glass

I found this at my local thrift store for $4 - beautiful blue milk glass now sitting pretty on the dinging room buffet. I have been busy the last few days finishing off the study - happy to say it is now almost competed and I will take some photos to share.

Wanting to collect a little more I scouted ebay and found these.

Happy Friday - I hope you Wills be enjoying the royal wedding festivities.

Horsing around

I found this beautiful foal by English brand Beswick ($5 because his ear has been mended).

This little foal reminds me of when my horse "Star" when her was born at the other end of the paddock, the only thing we could see was the white star marking on his fored and the long legs, just like this beauty. Stars mothers name was Horse...literal naming helps with the kiddies I think.

Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?

I found this top to a clock whilst thrifting recently  for $2, the sales person asked what I would do with it - I was not quite sure at the time. Once I got it home I decided to pair it with a blue and white plate (thanks mum) and a stack crumb of choc chip cookies..

It's previous home would have looked something like this:

I was inspired by the domed cake stands that have become quite popular.

Cougar Town - Jules home (Via Entertainment Weekly)

I love the show Cougar Town, it is sooo funny - take a whole load of sarcastic comedy and drink it up with a massive glass of wine.

Jules' (Courteney Cox) home from the show is fabulous! via: Entertainment Weekly.

Shopping the home

Is there anything better than shopping the home? It is a little silly to have so many items in the home to actually enable you to go shopping? but alas - enough with my junk....It is getting colder here in Australia - I have added a bit of purple to the master bed.

Can you see where Bella the dog likes to sleep?

Literally - Junk in the trunk

DIY - Juju inspired mirror

As promised here are a few instructions if you would like to create your own juju inspired mirror

Materials:
  • 1m of material
  • 1 x round hat box the diameter is about 45cm - I used the two circles from the top and bottom, you can use thick cardboard if you like.
  • 1 x round mirrored coaster (I got 2 different sizes from my local dollar store $2 & $2.50)
  • Craft glue
  • scissors
  • stapler

Creating the Petals
Cut material into two different sizes - rough measurement is okay:
Large size 20cm x 10cm, cut 45 pieces of material
Small size: 12cm x 7cm cut 12 pieces (to form the centre circle)
Fold the top corner over to meet the adjacent side whilst forming a triangle.
Fold again
Tuck the corner under to form a cone shape
Staple the fabric
Repeat the process until you have a pile of little petal beauties ready for gluing.

Preparing the base
  • Using a scalpel knife cut around the lid of the hat box.
  • Cover the cardboard with fabric and fix with craft glue- for the sheer fabric I used a round white placemat.
  • Starting with the large size petals one by one glue the back of each petal, place around the circle at 3, 6, 9 and 12 (clock) approximately 5cm over the edge.
  • Repeat this process using the same large petals in the middle (ensuring to cover the staples).
  • Repeat the process for the centre using the small petals.
  • Place craft glue on the back of the mirrored coaster, place in the centre of the flower.
And then......

I hung them using 3M tape for pictures...that stuff is magic (no more holes in our walls)

Round round part 3 - My DIY Juju inspired mirror

I was totally inspired by the apartment with the painted white floorboards (I posted yesterday) I couldn't stop thinking about the last photo with the juju inspired mirror - so I decided to make some juju inspired mirrors myself using fabric instead of feathers. The mirrored juju is easy to make and can be done using any fabric - for these creations I used hessian and a sheer white fabric - I would love to make a hot pink tulle one for my study, oh and maybe a black one and a grey one too. If you are keen to give it a go yourself I will post some DIY instructions tomorrow.

The look of the mirror reminds me of a dahlia flower + juju hat + starburst mirror.

Here is the white one I created - on the wall in our master bedroom

I love the arrangement of a few Juju together like the photo below.

How awesome is the image above? A tulle juju inspired hat and an upside down lampshade? Ohhhh I am feeling very inspired to turn a few lampshades upside down.
